My Approach: Documentary Photography
Documentary photography is about capturing real life as it naturally unfolds. Rather than directing every pose or asking you to constantly smile at the camera, I focus on genuine moments — natural interactions, real emotion, quiet details, and the connections that tell your story. I’ll offer gentle guidance when it helps, but I never force a moment that doesn’t feel like you.
The result is a gallery that feels lived-in and personal, not staged.
The Light I Love
Light is one of the most important elements in any photograph, so when a session is flexible, I’ll usually suggest we shoot around Golden Hour or Blue Hour.
Golden Hour
Soft, warm, natural light that flatters skin and complements genuine emotion — my go-to for most flexible outdoor sessions, producing timeless images that never feel forced.
Blue Hour
A calm, cinematic mood with rich color and soft ambient light. These sessions involve a little more direction and lighting, trading spontaneity for a bold, atmospheric result.
A note for real events: when we’re documenting something that runs on its own clock — a wedding, a birthday, a day in your life — I don’t chase the perfect light. I work with whatever the day gives us, because that is the true story. Beautiful light is a bonus; the real moment always comes first.
When You Can Book Me
Great light is my preference, but the best session is the one that actually fits your life.
Don’t see a time that works? Reach out anyway — I do my best to accommodate schedules, especially for families with young kids and clients working around a 9-to-5.
Choosing the Right Time Together
Every session is unique. While Golden Hour is often ideal for flexible outdoor portraits, the best time truly depends on your location, the weather, the season, and the story we’re telling. Once we’ve talked through your vision, I’ll recommend the exact time and light that will give you the experience — and the images — you’re hoping for.
